100 + 1 Erikas shines a spotlight on actress, model and musician Erika Sawajiri, famous in Japan for her controversial and terse treatment of the media. A young San Francisco widow is swept into a political uprising in Burma after her sister reluctantly drags her on a Southeast Asia tour.Working at the top of his form, John Boorman is a director who can pursue the poetry of his personal obsessions within the framework of a dynamic thriller and not shortchange the film. Beyond Rangoon involves a journey into unfamiliar territory: the rivers, jungles, and war-torn backcountry of Burma in 1988; But it ! also ventures into the mythic Arthurian terrain of such seemingly disparate films as Excalibur, Point Blank, and Deliverance. This time, uniquely in this director's work, the quester is a woman. American doctor Laura Bowman (Patricia Arquette) regards her life as having ended after the brutal murder of her husband and their little boy by home invaders. Her sister (Frances McDormand) has persuaded her to come along on a sightseeing tour of Burma. The trip leaves Laura numb until, impulsively venturing into the night alone, she becomes witness to a crisis moment in history: the beginning of the military dictatorship's violent crackdown on the rising democracy movement. The sight of Aung San Suu Kyi, the dissidents' inspirational leader, facing down a wall of armed soldiers with only the power of serene self-possession inspires Laura (an amazing scene--and it really did happen).

But that's only the beginning of Laura’s movement toward enlightenment, ! and back to life. Beyond Rangoon abounds in memorable e! ncounter s--with individuals variously supportive and terrifying, and with locations and situations where hope and catastrophe trade off like valences of the same energy. As critic Kathleen Murphy has noted, "It's as though the fabric of reality shivers like water, racking focus into a new, altered pattern of experience." (Case in point: the startling image of a car's rear window star-shattered by a pursuer's bullet as Laura drives down an almost nonexistent jungle road--the pursuit car sharply irised in the bullet hole.) Boorman makes us feel the total chaos of a spectacularly beautiful land that is not only at the mercy of a brutal regime but utterly cut off from an outside world that doesn't, can't, know what's happening there. In this, Boorman's movie immeasurably increased awareness of Burma's tragedy, but it hasn't prevented the government of what's now called Myanmar from keeping Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest more than 20 years later. --Richard T. JamesonOverlooke! d and underrated, "Goodbye Lover" is a tawdry, tasty film noir with a soft spot for its scheming antiheroine. With her platinum Lulu bob, a killer wardrobe, and a "Sound of Music" fetish that inspires her to "climb every mountain" of bad-girl ambition, Patricia Arquette is perfectly cast as Sandra, the sweet but lethal wife of Jake (Dermot Mulroney), who works in a top-drawer ad agency with his brother Ben (Don Johnson). Weary stud Ben falls prey to simultaneous affairs with Sandra and his devoted secretary (Mary-Louise Parker), and the cynical Detective Pompano (Ellen DeGeneres) unravels the murder-for-insurance plot while her clueless Mormon partner (Ray McKinnon) tries to keep pace. Combining mordant humor and rampant depravity, this deliciously dark comedy starts fast and never lets up, liberating director Roland Joff?© ("The Killing Fields") from the sobriety of his previous work. The entire cast is great, but it's DeGeneres who makes this a recommended sleeper. JamesonStudio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 06/21/2011 Run time: 563 minutesPlot is a meaningless term when trying to describe Lost Highway. Here, more or less, is what happens: A noise-jazz saxophonist (Bill Pullman) suspects his wife (Patricia Arquette) of infidelity. Meanwhile, someone is breaking into their house and videotaping them while they sleep. The wife is murdered and Pullman is convicted of the crime. Then, in prison, he transmogrifies into a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) who is subsequently released, since, after all, he's no! t the guy they convicted. Getty goes back to his life and meet! s a loca l gangster's moll, who happens to be played by Patricia Arquette... but none of this has much to do with what the movie is really about. Dreams are what intrigues director David Lynch. Not friendly, happy dreams; his dreams whisper that what we think is real is just something we made up, something to keep ourselves from falling into chaos. Characters are fragments. Events happen not because they make sense, but because deep down we want these things to happen. Of course, in Lynch's dreams, as in our waking lives, getting what we want is not always pleasant. In the movie's best moments, you really have no idea what you're seeing. The screen is a big rectangle of color and shadow, but what it represents, well, it could be anything. And yet, in those moments, you've been given just enough hints of place, character, and story that these elusive images elicit a genuine dread, a sense that you might not want to see this, yet you can't look away; a sense that we are living o! n borrowed time, that something is fiercely askew in our psyches. As a whole, Lost Highway is a failure: much of it is padded, gratuitous, and indulgent and pointless cameos bog down an already sluggish narrative. Yet within that failure are moments worth more than the entirety of most successful movies. --Bret FetzerFrom the creators of Being John Malkovich and starring Tim Robbins and Patricia Arquette comes a deliciously twisted film with biting dialogue wild twists and plenty of comic turns.Running Time: 96 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY UPC: 794043572623This fascinating comedy questions what we mean when we use words like "nature" and "civilization." Lila (Patricia Arquette, Lost Highway, True Romance), a nature writer who grows hair all over her body, falls in love with Nathan (Tim Robbins, The Player, The Hudsucker Proxy), a scientist attempting to teach table manners to mice. While hiking in the woods, they discover ! Puff (Rhys Ifans, Notting Hill), a man raised in the wi! ld since childhood, whom Nathan seizes as a test subject for his experiments--and soon these three, along with Nathan's French lab assistant (Miranda Otto) are embroiled in criss-crossed love affairs as they (and the audience) attempt to figure out what it means to be true to one's own nature. Though Human Nature isn't as surefooted as Being John Malkovich (which was also written by distinctive screenwriter Charlie Kaufman), it has moments of startling comic genius. --Bret FetzerBADGE - DVD MovieFast Food Nation Poster (11 x 17 Inches - 28cm x 44cm) (2006) Style A reproduction poster print

It's Christmas Eve, when even the most voracious corporate climbers generally head home by dinner time. But not ANGELA (Rachael Nichols). She's the last one left at the office, determined to close one more deal before the holiday. The long hours she keeps will have an impact, but not the kind she's been hoping for.Stalker in a parking garage. You've got to give the makers of P2 credit: They've tapped a universal source of anxiety and stretched it out into a feature-length film. Underneat! h a Manhattan skyscraper, chic businesswoman Angela (Rachel Nichols) is knocking off for the Christmas holiday. Everybody else has cleared out of the garage--everybody but freaky-friendly attendant Tom (Wes Bentley), and his little dog too. Before long, Tom makes it clear that he'd like to have Angela for holiday dinner, whatever that might mean. Our heroine must summon all her resources, and the challenge of a low-cut dinner gown, to fight back. P2 (no, it's not the sequel to P) at least allows Angela a measure of common sense, as she actually thinks of some logical ways to fight back, and director Franck Khalfoun (working from an idea by Haute Tension guys Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur) does indeed get the most out of the parking garage location. But the movie's at a loss to make these two characters interesting in any way, even at the Coyote vs. Roadrunner level. Tom's little quirks, like miming a dance to Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas," feel! like a desperate attempt to add flavor to an otherwise standa! rd-issue creepo. Bentley (best known for American Beauty) does have the face of an obsessive, and Nichols has the face (and did we mention the cleavage?) of a movie star, so they're not hard to believe. But most of the time this movie is stuck on the wrong floor. --Robert HortonAfter a botched home robbery in a wealthy community leaves a small child dead, a single clue leads police detective Noah Cordin (Nick Stahl of Terminator 3 and Sin City) and his new partner (Rachel Nichols of Star Trek) to Cordin's nearby working-class hometown. But in a struggling community full of desperate suspects, including a local laborer (Kellan Lutz of The Twilight Saga), the fuse is lit on a conflict that goes far deeper than homicide. Jonathan Tucker (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Ruins), Grace Gummer (Gigantic) and Norman Reedus (The Boondock Saints) co-star in this provocative indie drama from writer/director Josh Sternfeld (Winter Solstice) about a shocking crime, an extreme investig! ation, and the tensions--and passions--that will explode in a county called MESKADA.Studio: Monarch Video Assoc. Release Date: 10/27/2009 Run time: 94 minutes Rating: RWOODS - DVD MovieFour months after pregnant Sara loses her husband in a horrific auto accident, she is visited on Christmas Eve by a mysterious madwoman. Alone and desperate to save her unborn child, Sara fights to stay alive as each of her potential rescuers die at the womans sadistic hands.Hailed by several critics as the first great French horror film this millennium, Inside opens on a gory note and stays true to the bloodfest throughout. But rather than using splatter-gore for comedic effect, as did young directing team Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo's predecessor, Hershell Gordon-Lewis, this duo timed their gore to build tragic suspense, scene after disgusting scene. The strength of Inside's plot is its simplicity, though the film is slow at first. Pregnant photojournalist, Sarah Sc! aragato (Alysson Paradis), has just lost her husband in a fata! l car ac cident and is in recovery when her baby is due on Christmas Eve, in fact. Morose, she rejects friend and family visits, opting to stay home. A bewitched predator, played by Beatrice Dalle, senses Sarah's vulnerability and seizes upon it like a spider capturing prey in its web. The tale, woven around maternal psychosis, reveals Dalle's haunting preoccupation with stealing Scaragato's unborn baby. Each character who enters Sarah's house, the "war zone" as one doomed policeman puts it, encounters the wrath of two women fighting with mirror shards, knitting needles, scissors, hurled kitchen appliances, and even a homemade bayonette. Like the best horror thrillers about motherhood---Rosemary's Baby, Don't Look Now, Alien---Inside seizes ample symbolic opportunities to exhibit the primal obsession women have with babies. Even better, Inside invites feminist critique as do other female-centric horror films such as Ginger Snaps, whose plots ! not only include strong, vengeful female victims, but also sympathetic, criminal femme fatales. An entertaining "Making of Inside" featurette follows, revealing makeup and special effects techniques. Inside is for a specific audience; as scenes get redder and wetter, the squeamish may find it sickening---beware and enjoy. â€"Trinie DaltonSportswriter Erik Kernan (Hartnett) wants nothing more than to discover a story great enough to make headlines. So when he meets Champ (Jackson), a former boxing champion living on the streets, he knows he has a shot to save them both. Recording his newfound friend's unbelievable tale of triumph and defeat, Kernan gets his story and his fame. But as Champ's tale falls under more scrutinizing eyes, Kernan will have to learn that what truly makes a story great is the quality of the man behind it.Loosely based on a Los Angeles Times Magazine story by J.R. Moehringer, Resurrecting the Champ is a heartfelt, the! matically ambitious drama that attempts to work on several lev! els, and mostly pulls it off. On one level it's the story of a sloppy journalist named Erik Kernan (Josh Hartnett) who learns a painful lesson in humility when he's forced to confront his own shortcomings as a father and a sportswriter. On another level it's a richly human tale of redemption between the flawed reporter who's desperate to match his late father's professional reputation, and a former boxing champion (Samuel L. Jackson) who's now a homeless drifter on the streets of Denver, Colorado. When Kernan seizes on "The Champ" as the kind of personal, humanitarian story that could give him a much-needed career boost, he falls into the trap of his own ambition, making a professional mistake that threatens to ruin his career forever. While attempting to impress his 6-year-old son (Dakota Goyo) and win back the respect of his estranged wife (Kathryn Morris, from TV's Cold Case), Kernan is groomed for celebrity by a sexy Showtime executive (Teri Hatcher), but must ultimately ! get his values and priorities in order. Resurrecting the Champ emerges as a surprisingly thought-provoking study of professional and personal ethics, with some equally compelling observations about the modern state of journalism-as-show-business. Directed with a delicately sentimental touch by former film critic Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle), Resurrecting the Champ lacks the sharp focus that could've made it a modest classic, but it's a welcome relief from the mindless mayhem of big-studio blockbusters. Lurie's careful handling of the material is blessed by excellent performances by Hartnett and Jackson, with stellar support from Morris, Alan Alda, David Paymer, and especially Peter Coyote, almost unrecognizable under old-age makeup as a veteran boxing reporter who sets Hartnett's character on the road to redemption. --Jeff ShannonConan the Barbarian Reproduction Poster Print Style C 27 x 40 Inches - 69cm x 102cm

From the author: This work has investigated filling characteristics during inj! ection molding of a thin-plate with microchannel patterns on it. To conduct molding experiments, an injection mold and mold inserts with microchannel patterns were designed and built. The experiments were conducted for three different channel sizes, and the results are analyzed. An unstable filling flow was observed in microscopic images for the smallest channel size. The front advanced with continuous creation and merge of microballs, which looked like teeth on the gum. We have analyzed this phenomenon and argued that there exists a critical channel width where such instability takes places. POLYM. ENG. Forbidden desires and dangerous intrigue generate sizzling heat in this erotic thriller! At a sexy strip club called Exotica, three strangers -- an obsessive man, an erotic table dancer, and the club's mysterious D.J. -- share much more than is apparent at first glance! As their secret passions grow, they become more deeply entangled in an inescapable web of jealousy, deceit, and revenge! The powerfully seductive hit EXOTICA is gripping entertainment -- you won't be able to take your eyes off it!In spite of its atrociously misleading packaging, Exotica is a beguiling mystery by enigmatic Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, in which people and their relat! ionships are not what they seem. What at first appear to be disparate stories of a tormented tax auditor, a lonely pet-shop owner, and a sensitive stripper and her coworkers gradually merge to reveal a larger, interconnected portrait. The sequences involving Mia Kirshner's schoolgirl stripper are particularly engrossing because of her character's intelligence and the scenes' deeper subtext. Indeed, Exotica is less about stripping than about fragile human relationships, and it is not until the truly revelatory final scene that we are able to fully absorb the film's deeper meaning. --Bryan ReesmanI Live Here is a paper documentaryâ€"an intimate journey to humanitarian crises in four corners of the world: war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico, and AIDS in Malawi.

~THE BOOK~

I Live Here is a visually stunning narrative â€" told through journals, stories, images, and graphic novella! s â€" in which the lives of refugees and displaced people beco! me at on ce personal and global. Bearing witness to stories that are too often overlooked, it is a raw and intimate journey to crises in four corners of the world: war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico, and AIDS in Malawi.

The voices we encounter are those of displaced women and children, in their own words or in stories told in text and images by noted writers and artists. The stories unfold in an avalanche: An orphan goes to jail for stealing leftovers. A teenage girl falls in love in a city of disappeared women. A child soldier escapes his army only to be saved by the people he was taught to kill.

Mia Kirshner’s journals guide us through a unique paper documentary brought vividly to life in collaboration with J.B. MacKinnon, Paul Shoebridge, and Michael Simons, with featured works by Joe Sacco, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Phoebe Gloeckner, Chris Abani, Karen Connelly, Kamel Khelif, and many others.

~THE JOURNEYS ! ~

Ingushetia
The border of the Russian republic of Ingushetia is not even fifty miles from Grozny, the capital city of Chechnya. Today, some 15,000 Chechen refugees live in Ingushetia. Mia Kirshner and Joe Sacco traveled here together, returning with first-person accounts, video, photographs, and other materials gathered in Nazran and Moscow. The chapter includes journals by Mia Kirshner, the story of a young refugee as told by J.B. MacKinnon, the story of a young piano virtuoso as told by Ann-Marie Macdonald, and a graphic novella of Chechen refugees by Joe Sacco.

Burma
Ethnic cleansing by the Burmese military has displaced an estimated 500,000 to 1 million people; over 100,000 live in refugee camps along the Thailand-Burma border. Burma is also believed to be home to more child soldiers than any other country in the world. Mia Kirshner and Michael Simons took separate trips to the region; this chapter is based on their interviews,! photos, and video, as well as writing by sex workers and Kare! n refuge es. It includes journals by Mia Kirshner, as well as work by Chris Abani, Karen Connelly, J.B. Mackinnon, and a graphic novella by Kamel Khélif.

Juárez
Ciudad Juárez is a large industrial border city in Mexico across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas. Since 1993, young women, many of them employees of Juárez’s more than three hundred maquiladoras, or global trade zone factories, have been disappearing from the streets. Mia Kirshner and Phoebe Gloeckner made independent journeys to this region; this book is informed by the stories and images they brought home. It includes journals, a story of one of the victims by Lauren Kirshner, and a graphic novella by Phoebe Gloeckner.

Malawi
Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries, and has an AIDS rate close to twenty percent. The disease touches every aspect of daily life in the African nation, introducing immense chaos, particularly in the case of orphan children. Mia Kirshner ! and J.B. MacKinnon made the trip to Malawi and returned with interviews, photographs, writing, and artworks. This book includes journals, a children’s story by J.B. MacKinnon with art by Julie Morstad, and the stories and artwork of boys in a local prison. In spite of its atrociously misleading packaging, Exotica is a beguiling mystery by enigmatic Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, in which people and their relationships are not what they seem. Indeed, Exotica is less about stripping than about fragile human relationships, and it is not until the truly revelatory final scene that we are able to ful! ly absorb the film's deeper meaning. --Bryan ReesmanA ! breath o f fresh air in a stale genre, Zoe Clarke-Williams's canny look at the catty world of college cliques is the smartest dissection of the complex world of class envy, social acceptance, and the seduction of privilege since Heathers. But this drama plays it for tragedy. Local working-class girl Mia Kirshner is transformed from social outcast to campus Cinderella and adopted into the hedonistic party world of a trio of rich fun-loving sorority princesses (Meredith Monroe, Dominique Swain, and Rachel True), and comes out the other end in a drug-induced coma. Confidently directed and elegantly constructed in puzzle-piece flashbacks, this sensitive, sympathetic, smartly made drama is refreshingly free of glib moralizing, the rare young-adult film that twists the usual clichés and leaves its audience with more questions than answers. The DVD also features an audio commentary track by director Zoe Clarke-Williams. --Sean AxmakerBrand New 8x10 Female Celebrity Photo

While driving down a country road, Carrie Mitchell (Daryl Hannah) is en route to her new life in Salem, Maine. Suddenly, from out of the woods staggers Amy Singer, injured and scared! Carrie pulls over to help, and her young passenger begins to tell Carrie a horrifying story of what happened to her and her friends in the woods. Through a series of flashbacks we witness the horrific events of Amy and her colleagues, who days earlier were out on an environmental studies trip for college. Camped in the forest excavating what they believed was an ancient Indian burial site, they come across an arm bone, with a Rolex watch still attached around the wrist. It dawns on the group that they have discovered a burial ground, but not the type they were seeking! Carrie soon discovers that Amy carries a deadly secret, and the unspeakable horror that happened ! in the woods is far from over.Teenager Johnny Rourke (Aidan Quinn) is reckless. Born on the wrong side of the tracks, he breaks the law and girls' hearts with equal cool. Cheerleader Tracey Prescott (Daryl Hannah) is reckless too. She dumps her conventional life and boring boyfriend to follow Johnny wherever his dangerous path leads.

Set to a driving rock score, Reckless captures three talents at the start of their careers. The film marks Quinn's (Legends of the Fall) film debut, showcases Hannah one month before she made a Splash with Tom Hanks and features a screenplay by Chris Columbus, whose Gremlins and The Goonies soon stormed the box office.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

One of a series of "angry teen" moves in the '80s, Reckless (1984) stars Aidan Quinn as rebellious youth Johnny Rourke and Daryl Hannah as Tracey Prescott, an upper-class good girl who! falls in love with bad boy Johnny in a Rust Belt town. While! the fil m is well known for launching the careers of its young stars (Jennifer Grey and Adam Baldwin also appear in small roles, and Chris Columbus wrote the screenplay), it also distinguishes itself by the driving rock soundtrack. Romeo Void's "Never Say Never," Bob Seger's "Roll Me Away," Kim Wilde's "Kids in America," and three songs ("The One Thing," "Soul Mistake," and "To Look at You") from Shabooh Shoobah, an album from a then-unknown Australian band called INXS, punctuate the sizzling chemistry between Quinn and Hannah, especially in scenes on the dance floor and late at night at the high school. --David Horiuchi

In his culinary education, he befriends Jin-Soo (Nam Sang-Mi, Sweet Spy) a headstrong country girl who dreams of becoming a food critic. Although Sung-Chan and Jin-soo don't get along at first, the two quickly join forces in order to make both their dreams come true.

But life gets complicated for Sung-Chan when his step-father learns of his culinary talents and rethinks the inheritance of the family restaurant, creating a newfound sibling rivalry between himself and his chef step-brother, Kwon Oh Joong (! Meanwhile, an elite paramilitary squad from North Korea has stolen a shipment of CTX, an undetectable liquid explosive of enormous power, which they've planted all over the city of Seoul. As their investigations are successively foiled, Ryu and Lee begin to suspect that there is a mole within the ranks of the agency--and it may be one of them. Both hyperstylish and hyperrealistic, Shiri rips along as a smooth fusion of Hong Kong and American action movies. Ryu's troubled romance with his alcoholic fiancée adds a striking emotional counterpoint to the blazing gunfights and high-speed chases; the ending is unexpectedly moving. It's not surprising that this film beat Titanic's b! ox-office records in Korea. --Bret Fetzer This digital document is an article from Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, published by American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) on December 1, 2008. Hema Malini, the quintessential Dream Girl of Hindi cinema has truly nurtured a dream, and followed it to its realization. After being unceremoniously dropped from her first Tamil film as the director felt that she didn t have star quality , Hema signed the Hindi film she was offered opposite Raj Kapoor. Just eighteen, she soon conquered the hearts of all moviegoers with her beauty, grace and charisma. From Johnny Mera Naam to Sholay, from Meera to Baghbaan, she has portrayed a d! iverse range of characters that will always remain a part of the film legend. Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Sanjeev Kumar ... she worked with all the leading stars, but it was with Dharmendra that the chemistry on screen was palpable. The special bond she shared with Dharmendra set the rumour mills buzzing but defying all conventions, Hema married her Jat hero in May 1980. Striking a perfect balance between her personal and professional life, Hema maintains a dignity about the little world she shares with daughters Esha and Ahana. This intimate portrayal, the first authorized biography, by Bhawana Somaaya is a result of her long years of association with Hema as a film journalist and critic. Hema speaks to her more candidly than ever before about her life, with and without Dharmendra, her children, her mother and her twin passions of dance and acting.Starring: DHARMINDER * SANJEEV KUMAR * HEMA MALINI * MANORAMA

Synopsis:

Seeta Aur Geeta is a dramatic and acti! on-packed saga of twin sisters who had a double date with dest! iny; one resigned herself to fate - but the other met it with a vengeance!

Seeta's mild and gentle nature contrasted, like the opposite side of a coin, with Geeta's wild and robust approach to life. Seeta had fallen into the hands of evil men who were bent upon crushing her body and soul, in the process of robbing her of her legal inheritance. But hell hath no fury like a woman whose sister's honor is at stake. Geeta went on the war-path and unleashed her fury on her sister's tormentors - with effects which make you hold your breath as you watch the dust fly!

Seeta Aur Geeta also has two tender love-tales running parallel to each other and interweaving a graceful pattern in the lives of the two sisters. Seeta's sweet and loving nature makes a deep mark in the heart of a young fire-brand, Raka, who begins to mend his ways in order to be worthy of her love. On the other hand, Geeta's bold and zestful approach to life appeals to the imagination of a sophisticated ! city doctor, Ravi, who woos her with all the passion of his young heart.

Every goes smoothly until the day the villain, Ranjit, discovers the secret of the true identities of the two sisters and sets into motion a master-plan to destroy them both and reap a rich harvest of profit for himself.

And the killings continue.Made during the 2006 horror boom in South Korea, Arang is a stylish and well-made variation on the theme of the vengeful ghost that has proved so popular in Asian genre films. Horror fans should note, though, that the supernatural element is the least interesting aspect of writer-director Ahn Sang-hoon's feature; anyone who's seen the! Japanese or American versions of The Grudge or The Ring will be disappointed to find here yet another take on the long-haired, water-logged female ghost with painful revenge on her mind. Instead, it's the framing device that catches the most interest; the discovery of the ghost is precipitated by the horrific murder of two young men, which leads hardboiled detective So-yeong (Yun-ah Song) and her rookie partner (Dong-wook Lee) to the scene of a forgotten rape and murder from years ago. The crime has particular resonance for So-yeong, who is the survivor of a similar attack, and this subplot adds a layer of drama and realism to an attractively photographed but otherwise by-the-books Asian horror title. The DVD includes commentary by Sang-hoon and members of his cast, and the filmmaker is surprisingly candid about what works and what doesn't in his movie. A small selection of deleted scenes, as well as two behind-the-scenes featurettes and the theatrical traile! r, round out the extras. --Paul Gaita

Korea Unmasked In Search of the Country, the Society and the People (New Edition) (Graphic Novel)

  • Chapter 0: Foreword, Introduction
  • Chapter 1: Neighbors but Strangers : Korea, China and Japan
  • Chapter 2: The Korean People
  • Chapter 3: The Successes and Tribulations of the Koreans
  • Translators Notes: Jung Un, Louis Choi
This volume brings together 65 poems from Choi Seungho's ten books that best illustrate his thought and art. In many of his poems, Choi portrays the rampant desires of the "hypnotized" man and the gray landscape of the late consumer society. Choi tries to expose the illusory nature of man’s desire by graphically portraying its dire consequences. His is a world where a woman's womb is a factory, a vending machine is a prostitute, and a glance upon the lake affords a reflection of pollution.

His critical consciousness against current life is always directed toward the basic problems of humanity. Deeply influenced by Taoistic and Buddhistic! thought, his poetic world is directly linked to the world of ecological imagination addressing the most urgent problems of human survival.ABOUT THIS BOOK: Korea Unmasked is an illustrated book that presents a hilarious and often unflattering look at Korean society and its people. It brings the reader a fascinating exploration of the Korean mindset and weaves together history, sociology and cultural anthropology. The book introduces an insight in subjects like; Korean history, traditions, culture, food, life, economy, tension between South and N. Korea and more. The book will introduce the reader to Korea and their people and discuss many subjects and attitudes that are sometimes unknown or misunderstood by westerners. The insightful discussions about Korea and differences/similarities with other countries emphasized on the neighbors China, Japan, will help to clear the picture who the Korean people really are. The author, Won-bok Rhie provides a delightful and humorous por! trait of the Korean people. It's comical yet serious well-writ! ten and informative pictured by the author. If you only have time for one book about Korea, this is the book! ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Won-bok Rhie is one of Korea's most famous cartoonists. Inspired by true events. Kate Beckinsale and Academy Award® nominee Matt Dillon (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Crash, 2004) lead an all-star cast in this explosive story about a Washington, D.C. reporter who faces a possible jail sentence for outing a CIA agent and refusing to out her source. The all-star cast includes Academy Award® nominees Alan Alda (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for The Aviator, 2004), Angela Bassett (Best Actress in a Leading Role for What's Love Got to Do with It, 1993); Emmy® Award nominee David Schwimmer (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Friends, 1994), Golden Globe® nominee Noah Wyle (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion P! icture for ER, 1997-99) and Vera Farmiga (The Departed).A U.S. President itching to start a war... A confidential report telling the Administration the opposite of what it wants to hear... A Beltway wife outed to the press as a CIA operative... And another woman, a hotshot reporter, threatened with jail because she won't reveal her source... Yes, it does sound like the Bush-era case of Valerie Plame and New York Times journalist Judith Miller--and by the time you make it to the end of writer-director Rod Lurie's latest inside-Washington shadowplay, you may wish he'd served up that real-life story instead of half-baked fiction. Kate Beckinsale plays the reporter, a rising star with a ponytail and a Pulitzer-worthy scoop, "Watergate and Iran-Contra combined." The film's best scenes have her tussling with the Plame figure (the formidable Vera Farmiga). Lurie makes them soccer moms whose kids play together--a proto-feminist gesture befitting the creator! of The Contender (the movie with Joan Allen as a Vice ! Presiden tial nominee battling a sex scandal) and Commander-in-Chief (the short-lived TV series featuring Geena Davis as America's first woman President). Nothing but the Truth trumpets its this-wouldn't-happen-to-a-man outrage but resorts to woman's-picture subplots involving weak, unreliable spouses--then compounds the lapse by leaving the male roles underdeveloped. Lurie seems to be working his way down a checklist of themes (sexism, the need to protect the freedom of the press, the way lives get left behind by the 48-hour news cycle) and possible impacts a person in Beckinsale's position might experience. Finally, his film is a make-your-own-movie kit leaving the viewer free to focus on favorite ingredients. Apart from Beckinsale and Farmiga, the name cast (Angela Bassett, Noah Wyle, et al.) is mostly reduced to revving their engines, though Matt Dillon scores as a special prosecutor mixing folksiness and cold calculation, while Alan Alda gets to showboat as ! a legendary defense attorney. The widescreen setups abound in irritating mannerisms and pointless foreground clutter, but since cameraman Alik Sakharov did clean work throughout the epic run of HBO's The Sopranos, the blame must lie with the director. And that's the truth. --Richard T. JamesonOne moment can change a lifetime. Shots ring out and the early morning tranquility of a diner shatters. As survivors pick up the pieces, they find themselves transforming in the most unexpected ways as they cope with the aftermath. One brief moment and their lives are changed forever. Featuring an all-star cast including Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, and Academy Award winners Forest Whitaker (Best Actor, The Last King of Scotland, 2006) and Jennifer Hudson (Best Supporting Actress, Dreamgirls, 2006).Professor David Ash (Aidan Quinn) is skeptical of the supernatural, yet he is invited by elderly Nanny Tess Webb (Anna Massey) to investigate para! normal goings-on at her country estate. When Ash arrives, he ! meets he r three adult children (Kate Beckinsale among them, who becomes his future love interest) and the family doctor (John Gielgud), all of whom deny anything is going on and claim that Nanny Tess is merely hallucinating. Yet after spending some time there, the professor begins experiencing unexplainable visions that only Nanny Tess, and often only he, sees. Furthermore the ghost of his sister, who died as a child in a drowning accident, begins to roam the estate. Is he imagining it and going mad? Or is the house truly haunted? Adapted by Tim Prager from the James Herbert novel, Lewis Gilbert's highly memorable film is a brilliant haunted-house tale with chilling scenes and an exceptional plot twist. Adapted by Tim Prager from the James Herbert novel, Lewis Gilbert's highly memorable film is a brilliant haunted-house tale with chilling scenes and an exceptional plot twist. --Bryan ReesmanLone u.S. Marshal the only one assigned to antarctica must investigate a murder and track down a serial killer on the frozen continent within three days before the dark winter begins. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 01/19/2010 Starring: Kate BeckinsaleBaby, it's cold outside: that's the problem! for U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), the only la! w-enforc ement officer assigned to Antarctica. On the verge of shipping out before the really bad weather hits, Carrie is confronted with a mysterious murder that sounds like a riddle: how'd a lone corpse find its way to the middle of an ice field, as though dropped from a great height? And what's this have to do with the prologue about a Soviet fighter jet crashing some decades earlier? Whiteout, based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka, solves these questions in a brisk if mostly preposterous manner, and it moves swiftly enough so you don't have to spend too much time on the plausibility of it all. Among the other snowbound stragglers are a U.N. investigator (Gabriel Macht, of The Spirit), some cocky pilots (Alex O'Laughlin, Columbus Short), and a grizzled doctor (Tom Skerritt). If the presence of Skerritt conjures up memories of Alien, with its ten-little-Indians structure and female warrior, hold on--Whiteout doesn't actually have a supernatural twist ! to it, and Beckinsale is no Sigourney Weaver. But director Dominic Sena (undistinguished by his cheesy film Swordfish) puts the screws to the material in a relentless way, and the vast exteriors (shot in Canada) are impressive. And when it comes to one particular wow-you're-really-going-there instance of potential amputation for a main character, the film doesn't back down. In fact it sort of revels in the moment. --Robert Horton
