Mother [Blu-ray]

  • Mother is a devoted single parent to her simple-minded twenty-seven-year-old son, D0-joon. Often a source of anxiety to his mother, Do-joon behaves in foolish or simply dangerous ways. One night, while walking home drunk, he encounters a schoolgirl who he follows for a while before she disappears into a dark alley. The next morning, she is found dead in an abandoned building and Do-joon is accused
There is an ever-increasing demand for manufacturing plastics out of sustainable resource because raw materials derived from fossils fuels are rather limited. Bio-based polymers can make excellent candidates for such materials, and they can make excellent candidates for such materials, and they can contribute to the well0 being of humankind by preserving the earth from nondegradable plastic waste. Biodegradable plastics are particularly important when the recycling of plastic waste becomes impossibl! e or very difficult.Mother is a devoted single parent to her simple-minded twenty-seven-year-old son, Do-joon. Often a source of anxiety to his mother, Do-joon behaves in foolish or simply dangerous ways. One night, while walking home drunk, he encounters a schoolgirl who he follows for a while before she disappears into a dark alley. The next morning, she is found dead in an abandoned building and Do-joon is accused of her murder. An inefficient lawyer and an apathetic police force result in a speedy conviction. His mother refuses to believe her beloved son is guilty and immediately undertakes her own investigation to find the girl's killer. In her obsessive quest to clear her son's name, Mother steps into a world of unimaginable chaos and shocking revelations.Just as South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's previous film, The Host, subverted the traditions of the giant monster movie to examine the effects of a crisis on a unique family, his latest effort, Mother! , embraces the tropes of the murder mystery for an unsettling ! and affe cting story of parental love taken to its extreme. Popular South Korean television actress Kim Hye-ja gives a powerful performance as a downtrodden acupuncturist whose mentally challenged son (Korean A-lister Won Bin) is accused of murdering a local schoolgirl. Bullied into a confession by the local police (led by Yoon Je-moon of The Host), the young man faces incarceration at a mental hospital unless his mother can discover the killer's true identity. Her inquiry leads her into classic noir territory, with perceived truths blown apart at every turn; in typical Joon-ho fashion, these discoveries are marked by moments of shocking violence, dark slapstick humor, and moving familial drama, which come together in a genuinely unique perspective on the nature of truth and commitment. The official South Korean submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, Mother is yet another entry on a growing list of exceptional motion pictures from one of t! he international scene's most intriguing filmmakers. --Paul Gaita

This movie actually surprised me. I have a great love of B-movies and I assume that is why Amazon recommended it to me, but I had never heard of it. I decided to take a chance and picked it up. \nThe storyline is cohesive. The acting is somewhat better than the acting in similar films (especially on the parts of Lisa Boyle and Colleen McDermott).\nThough there is of course ample sex, it doesn't seem overly awkward or contrived. It works in the context of the picture. (With the possible exception of a single scene involving Kira Reed, whom I normally love in these movies).\nIn general I respect the niche for low-budget erotica, but its always a pleasant surprise when one com! es along that makes a decent movie on its own merits even without being judged as a soft-core flick.Between the realms of fantasy and reality lies Club Fugazi, a strip bar where the girls are being brutally murdered. The lead dancer dreams about killing the strippers each night before the murders take place. She's uncertain of her innocence, but her psychiatrist assures her she's not the killer. Now, it's up to him to convince the cops. Format: Color, DVD, NTSC Language: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono) Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. Read more about DVD formats.) A sexy stylish thriller stars Ray Liotta as Ford Cole a big-city district attorney with his eye on the mayor's office and a big problem on his hands. One of his deputies the beautiful assistant district attorney Nora Timmer has just confessed to killing a man in what she claims was self-defense. A bad situation gets worse when an enigmatic stranger named Luther Pinks turns up at the police station to contradict Nora's story and paint a very different picture of Ford's talented colleague. With his career and perhaps his life on the line Ford has a mere handful of hours to sort the truth from the lies in a saga involving Nora a record store clerk and a powerful gang lord. System Requirements:Running Time: 93 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Gen! re: ACTION/ADVENTURE/THRILLERS Rating: R UPC: 031398216711 Manufacturer No: 21671Fans of The Usual Suspects or The Departed should check out Slow Burn, a similarly twisty neo-noir starring Ray Liotta (Goodfellas). District Attorney Ford Cole (Liotta) finds his promising political career in danger when a dead body is discovered in the bed of his Assistant DA Nora Timmer (Jolene Blalock, Star Trek: Enterprise), who also happens to be Cole's lover. At first, it seems like a clear-cut case of self-defense, but then a video-store clerk with a strange sense of entitlement (James Todd Smith, better known as LL Cool J, Deep Blue Sea) suggests the killing is tied to an enigmatic criminal kingpin. From there, the plot defies summarizing: Conflicting stories are told in dimly lit interrogation rooms about mistaken identities, political machinations, lots of sex, and a wounded man unveiled by the light from a refrigerator. Everything hinge! s on real estate (a hint of Chinatown) and racial ident! ity (sma cking of Devil in a Blue Dress)--clearly, this movie is not afraid of flaunting its influences. All of these plot threads may not weave together seamlessly when the movie's over, but they catch your interest as it goes along. Slow Burn sometimes suffers from a needlessly slow pace (a few too many lingering shots of Liotta looking baffled or troubled), but the excellent cast--including Taye Diggs (How Stella Got Her Groove Back) as a jailbird with secrets, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Inside Man, Dirty Pretty Things) as a slippery journalist, and Mekhi Phifer (Dawn of the Dead) as the possibly innocent sap who ends up dead in Nora's bed--keeps the movie afloat. --Bret FetzerStudio: Starz/sphe Release Date: 03/04/2008 Rating: Pg13Set against the background of Africa's Emerald Coast and diamond mines, DIAMOND HUNTERS traces the torrid fortunes of a family unable to forgive and forget. Starship Troopers 3: Marauder explodes with mind-blowing man-on-bug combat! Col. Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) is back to lead his team on a secret mission to rescue a small crew of troopers stranded on the remote planet of OM-1. Battling bugs, both new and old, the new "Marauder" advanced weapons technology may be their only hope against a treasonous element operating within the Federation itself. As Captain Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock) and the rest of the starship crew fight to survive in the harsh conditions, it begins t! o dawn on them that something on OM-1 is very, very wrong. Thi! s time t he bugs have a secret weapon that could destroy humanity. Join the Mobile Infantry in this intergalactic action-packed adventure. Hewing closer to Paul Verhoeven's original and much-maligned Starship Troopers than the all-brawn-no-brains sequel, Hero of the Federation, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder blends high-power action with a dose of socio-political commentary in its story of gung-ho Marines versus insidious alien bugs. Ed Neumeier, who penned the Verhoeven film, is back as writer and director, as is Casper Van Dien as lantern-jawed hero Johnny Rico. Now a full-fledged colonel, he is dispatched to a planet where the military faces opposition from both the insect army and dissenting citizens. But after a trumped-up murder charge lands him on death row, Rico discovers that he's being sent on a secret mission to rescue a Sky Marshal (Stephen Anouke) who's gone missing deep in bug territory. Neumeier uses the well-worn military movie tropes to launch a s! atiric assault on all manner of current real world issues, from ultra-patriotism and military torture to religious fundamentalism and even pop culture as propaganda (Anouke's sky marshal is also a chart-topping singer). He lands a fair share of his jabs, and those that fall flat--Marnette Patterson's grating flight attendant--are tempered by sights like a ring of mechanical warrior 'bots forming an angelic halo. Unfortunately, said special effects are not particularly special, with the robots--the Marauders of the title--arriving far too late in the game. But with so many direct-to-DVD genre titles delivering little more than shoot-em-ups and CGI demonstrations, the tinge of black humor that runs through Starship Troopers 3 is appreciated. The disc includes two commentaries, one featuring Neumeier, Van Dien and Jolene Blalock (Enterprise), and the other with Neumeier and producer David Lancaster; a featurette on the new bugs on display in Troopers 3, as! well as interviews with the movie's soldiers, round out the e! xtra fea tures. --Paul GaitaFull color men's magazine featuring pictorials of Jolene Blalock, Kamila Brenkova, January Jones, and the Girls of Extreme Sports, plus features on Chris Kattan, blood sports, super sex, and much more! This is a beautiful reprint/preprint/reproduction of an original signed approx 5"x7" photo of Jolene Blalock.
